Bss Varicurve FCS-926 2-CH 31-Band Digital Equalizer
The Varicurve system of audio equalisers utilises a large, high definition graphics screen and
digital techniques to give an intuitive interface between the user and control of high quality
analogue filters. The FCS-926 is a dual channel parametric filter equaliser offering a total of 12
individual parametric filters and a 30 band Real Time Analyser (RTA) with pink noise source.
The Varicurve multiband equalisation system creates a more accurate and sonically superior
composite EQ contour than conventional manual or programmable graphic equalisers whilst
offering the added advantages of program memories, Midi and computer control.
A fully professional design that is the result of BSS Audio's long experience in creating industry
standard audio products, makes the VaricurveTM system a natural upgrade from conventional
graphic and parametric equalisers currently specified for various audio production
environments.
Some of the features offered within the FCS-926 are:
* Two separate channels of six band parametric equalisation which can operate independently,
or as a stereo linked pair. A MONO mode reconfigures the system as a single channel twelve
band parametric equaliser.
* All bands continuously variable from 20Hz to 20kHz, with bandwidth adjustment from 2
octaves to 0.1 octave. Cut and boost are variable between +/-15dB with a deep Notch
available on each band.
* Non reciprocal asymmetric cut/boost creates a more selective cut profile at any width setting.
* Peak fix mode holds boost or cut centres of each filter constant to minimise filter interaction.
* Large high contrast brightly backlit LCD screen graphically displays the composite EQ curve,
with numerical read-out of control settings for the band being adjusted.
* Integral RTA 30 band spectrum analyser with pink noise generator and featuring a phantom
powered mic input, peak or RMS response and selectable decay characteristics.
* Auto EQ mode links RTA analysis and equalisation processes to provide a sophisticated room
tuning facility which can automatically EQ a room to flat or to a stored preset room curve.
* Fifty program memory presets for stereo EQ set-ups, a further six program memories for
preset room curves and six memories for RTA analysis results.
* Comprehensive external control facilities include Midi, PA-422 and proprietary FSK for
control by the BSS FPC-900 VaricurveTM remote controller.
* Electronically balanced inputs and outputs with optional internally fitting transformers.

Lexicon PCM80 Digital Effects Processor
The PCM 80 is one of Lexicon’s most powerful and
versatile digital effects processors. The PCM 80 brings you exciting new effects
with extensive processing and control capabilities, and uncompromising sonic
clarity.
The PCM 80 contains a built-in library of 200 preset programs that provide a
comprehensive array of effects ranging from beautiful and lush to completely
wild. The presets are organized into 4 Banks of 50, and functionally grouped for
a wide range of applications. Be sure to experiment with all 200 presets to get
a feel for the full range of PCM 80 capabilities.
Every preset has one or more of its parameters patched to the front panel
ADJUST knob, giving you instant control over the primary aspect of the effect
— without going into Edit mode. In the preset, Concert Hall, for example, Mid
Reverb Time is patched to ADJUST. When you turn the knob, you will adjust the
reverb decay. In Prime Blue, ADJUST is patched to several parameters, so that
turning the knob changes the effect from a tight chorus, to a chorus with
recirculating echoes and, finally, into a reverb.
The Algorithms
The PCM 80 uses 10 stereo algorithms to create different types of effects. Each
algorithm includes an uncompromised stereo reverb effect, as well as several
voices of additional stereo effects. There are two general classes of algorithm:
4-Voice and 6-Voice. The 4-Voice algorithms: Concert Hall, Plate, Chamber,
Inverse and Infinite each combine a specific type of reverberation with a 4-voice,
general purpose, stereo effect “toolbox”, as well as additional post-processing
for the reverb. The 6-Voice algorithms: Glide>Hall, Chorus+Rvb, M-Band+Rvb,
Res1>Plate and Res2>Plate each combine a specific type of reverberation with
a specialized 6-voice stereo effect.
All PCM 80 algorithms include several parameters that make it possible to create
dynamic spatialization effects for 2-channel or surround applications. Check out
the Ambience Effects in Bank P1 and the Spatial Effects in Bank P2 for
examples.
Tempo Control
The PCM 80 gives you a unique set of tempo controls.Tempos can be tapped
in with the front panel Tap button (or an assigned controller) or “dialed-in”, in
BPM (beats per minute) on the display. The PCM 80 also lets you generate MIDI
clock from your tempo, as well as receive MIDI tempo from an external
sequencer or drum machine. In the PCM 80, tempo can control LFO speeds and
Time Switch controls, as well as all delay parameters, ensuring that all of your
modulations are in tempo with your music. You can even set independent
rhythmic values for different parameters within a single program.
Tempo can be set and displayed in either rhythmic value or time values. Many
presets, particularly the Rhythmic Echo & Delay Effects in Program Bank P1,
have delay times assigned to Tap tempo. Try loading some of these and
pressing Tap twice in rhythm to change tempo.
Editing
An enormous range of editing control is provided for each algorithm, with
parameters organized in an edit matrix of as many as 100 main controls. In
addition to providing this powerful sound design capability, the PCM 80 also
allows you to customize these controls for your day-to-day editing needs, or to
use a subset of controls specially designed for each preset.
The PCM 80 has two levels of Edit Mode control called Go mode and Pro mode.
In Go mode, the most useful parameters within an effect are grouped for instant
access via the front panel Edit button. Each preset has a specially selected set
of Go mode parameters which let you make value changes to the effect without
losing the character of the sound. Pro mode gives you access to the full
parameter editing matrix for the algorithm of any loaded effect when you press
Edit. In this mode, you can access a complete set of Modulation and Patching
parameters, create your own ADJUST knob patch and assign your own Go
mode parameters.
A unique Patching and Modulation system provides unprecedented control over
your effects, with a versatile set of internal modulators: LFO, AR Envelope,
Envelope Follower, Latch and Time Switches. These allow you to create
modulation sweeps which move in time with music, or wildly animated effects.
You can create as many as 10 patches per effect, each with as many as 8 pivot
points. You can patch multiple parameters to a single controller, or patch
multiple sources to a single destination.
Expansion
The front panel memory slot will accept industry standard PCMCIA SRAM cards
(up to 1Meg). Use these cards to store effects (as many as 2350 on a 1 Meg
card), system setups, MIDI program maps, and more.
PCM 80 internal audio memory can be expanded from a maximum stereo delay
time of 2.6 seconds to more than 42 seconds by installing 4Meg memory
modules (SIMMs).
User Interface
For all of its programming power and flexibility, you’ll find the PCM 80 simple to
use. The large, 2-line fluorescent display is easy to see from any angle whether
the surroundings are bright or dark. Separate SELECT and ADJUST knobs
make program loading and editing quick and easy. We’ve even designed in a
special Info mode — press and hold any button to find out what its function is,
or to get status information such as the name of the running effect, current tempo
rate, etc.
To get the most out of the PCM 80, we suggest that you invest the time to explore
this manual. We think you’ll agree that the time spent investigating will reward
you with enjoyment of its full capabilities.

Furman Sound PL-PLUS Power Conditioner and Light Module
The PL-8 Power Conditioner and Light Module is the perfect
accessory to any equipment rack, providing the basic power protection
essential to every audio or video system. Install a PL-8 in the top slot
of your rack, and the eight switched AC outlets on the rear panel will
power up all your equipment while its two slide-out light fi xtures provide
discreet illumination of their controls on stages, in studios, or in any dark
place. A dimmer control lets you adjust the lamp brightness to just the
right level.
The PL-8 protects your delicate electronic equipment by combining
a high voltage surge and transient suppressor with an RFI/EMI
interference fi lter. The fast-acting suppression circuit responds in
nanoseconds, clamping spikes and surges to safe levels. The fi lter
works to prevent noise from fl uorescent lights, electric motors, radio
transmitters, and similar sources of “electronic pollution” from leaking
from the AC line into sensitive analog or digital circuits.
The PL-8’s lamps come supplied with 7 watt night-light bulbs.
Replacements are readily available in 4 watt or 7 watt sizes at most
supermarkets and hardware stores. Colored Christmas tree bulbs may
also be used. Bulbs are easily replaced without removing the unit from
the rack by unscrewing the cap on the end of each light tube.
The PL-8 has a master switch for the rear outlets that glows red
when the power is on. There is also a separate switch for the lamps,
allowing you to check your equipment settings before applying power to
it. The front-panel circuit breaker can be easily and quickly reset should
the PL-8 be overloaded. Model PL-PLUS is an enhanced version of
the PL-8, offering improved noise fi ltering and an AC voltmeter.
The 20 LED bar-graph voltmeter reads from 90 to 128
volts in 2-volt steps. The normal range voltages are
indicated in green, with moderately and extremely
high or low voltages in yellow and red respectively.
The voltmeter’s accuracy is ±2 volts. It can easily be
recalibrated if necessary. The PL-PLUS also features
a longer, 10 foot heavy-duty 14 gauge power cable.
In addition, it offers a sophisticated RFI fi lter network
with a greatly improved capacity for stopping line
noise. This fi lter incorporates a toroidal inductor and
three high-voltage capacitors to achieve a commonmode
noise attenuation of over 50 dB at 10 MHz (see
graph overleaf below).

Electrovoice RE20SE 75th Anniversary Microphone
The Electro-Voice RE20 is a professional-quality dynamic
cardioid microphone created specially for recording, broadcast
and sound-reinforcement applications requiring essentially
flat response over a very wide frequency range. The wide
frequency response, coupled with excellent transient
response, make the RE20 easily comparable to the finest
condenser cardioid microphones and an easily operated “bass
tilt down” switch corrects spectrum balance for use in longreach
situations or other applications where bass attenuation
is needed.
A true cardioid microphone, the RE20 offers greatest rejection
at 180º off axis - directly to the rear of the microphone. Pattern
control is so consistent that the frequency response is nearly
independent of angular location of the sound source, creating
virtually no off-axis coloration, yet providing greatest possible
rejection of unwanted sounds. An integral blast and wind filter
covers each acoustic opening on the RE20. In recording
sessions or on stage, singers can “close talk” the microphone,
singing with their lips almost touching the grille screen with
no worry of “P-pops” or excessive sibilance. Part of the filter
also shock mounts the internal microphone element, reducing
the transfer of vibrations from external sources. The
exceptional performance of the RE20 is achieved by using a
large Acoustalloy diaphragm in combination with an
exceptionally low-mass aluminum voice coil. Using this
diaphragm assembly, the RE20 is capable of reproducing
extremely high sound pressure levels with no fear of the
overload and distortion often experienced with phantompowered
condensers. The RE20 will also continue to function
flawlessly in high humidity and elevated temperatures that
would seriously degrade competitive condenser microphones.
A massive steel housing and effective hum-bucking coil assure
the RE20’s resistance to magnetically induced hum and noise.
This means the RE20 can be used successfully in situations
where other microphones would experience unacceptable
levels of hum and buzz. By exploiting the strength of its steel
housing and employing a mechanical nesting concept, EV
designers have created an exceptionally rugged microphone
with superior handling noise rejection ideally suited for
professional uses.
Key Features:
• Favorite of broadcast show hosts and voiceover studios
• Ideal for instrument recording, especially kick drums and acoustic guitars
• Studio condenser response yet no powering required and immune to overloading
• Large Acoustalloy diaphragm and low-mass aluminum voice coil
• Dual-ported, continuously Variable-D® with minimal proximity effect
• Steel case and hum-bucking coil provide exceptional magnetic shielding

design techniques to minimize
magnetic field leakage, and the
cabinets may safely be placed within 2 feet of sensitive color
video monitors. For applications
requiring closer proximity to
monitors, an optional steelshielded
model is available.
The HD-1 incorporates line-level
control electronics mounted within
a rear-panel chassis, including:
• an active balanced input circuit
with switchable sensitivity
(+4 dBu or -10 dBV);
• an active crossover utilizing
optimized pole-zero filter
combinations to achieve acoustical
transparency and linear
phase;
• independent protection circuits
for each loudspeaker driver;
• dual power amplifiers for
biamplification.
The driver protection circuits
employ thermo-predictive limiters
and soft peak clamps to guard against damage from excessive
amplifier power and ensure
graceful overload characteristics.
Independent power biamplifiers
maximize system headroom,
efficiency and damping while
minimizing distortion. The low
frequency amplifier delivers 150
watts output power, while the high
frequency amplifier provides 75
watts. Both employ complementary
power MOSFET output stages
operating class A at low-to-moderate
listening levels (<90 dB SPL),
and class AB at high levels.
The HD-1’s free-field frequency
response is flat within ±1 dB from
40 Hz to 20 kHz (-3 dB at 32 Hz
and 22 kHz). It delivers high peak
SPL with >100 dB dynamic range
and extremely low distortion.
Covers are included for use during
transport.
Placement
The HD-1 is designed for “near
field” operation. The best listening
distance is between 3 and 9 feet
from the speaker face.
The HD-1 is aligned for flat
frequency response in free field (no
adjacent boundary surfaces).
Placing it next to a wall or on the
floor will cause the low frequencies
to be exaggerated.
Nearby surfaces (such as a
mixing console control surface)
should be angled to minimize
reflections toward the listener.
For stereo playback systems,
speaker stands are highly recommended.
Place them at least 3 feet
from any wall. In recording studios
the speakers may be placed on the
meter bridge.
Always allow at least 6 inches
clearance behind the speaker for
cooling airflow.
Power
The HD-1 accepts AC voltages
from 90 to 260 VAC, at 50 or 60 Hz,
in four ranges. Select the range that
is closest to the local mains AC
voltage.
The HD-1 is protected by a fastacting
fuse in the voltage selector
switch.
Input Connection
The HD-1 presents a 10 kohm
input impedance at a three-pin
XLR-type receptacle
Standard audio cables with
XLR-type connectors may be used
for balanced signal sources. Unbalanced
sources will require an inline
adapter.
Operation
In normal operation, the frontpanel
LED will glow green.
At high listening levels, the LED
may flash red on program peaks.
This indicates the onset of overload,
where the loudspeaker
protection limiters are activated.
If the LED is continuously red
for an extended period (8 hrs.),
thermal damage may result.
Calibration Port
The calibration port is for factory
use only. Do not apply external
voltages to any of the connector
pins.

Ashly GQX-3102 2-CH 31-Band Equalizer
The GQX-3102 graphic equalizer features two channels of 31-band 1/3-octave EQ, a tunable high-pass filter circuit (8Hz to 200Hz),
a switch-selectable cut or boost of either 6dB or 15dB. The 45mm full-throw faders are a custom-manufactured metal-shaft type, with the center detented position utilized
as an “on/off” switch for that filter which minimizes any possible degradation in signal noise levels. A 10-segment, two color LED meter displays accurately displays
your signal level and referenses 0 VU to +4dBu.
The GQX models are designed to be significantly quiet without the need for noise reduction to be built into the equalizer circuit. Double-sided circuit boards and an
extensive ground plane design are used in the filter sections to improve RFI and electrostatic immunity. Precision Wein-Bridge filters and carefully designed summing
amplifiers combine to provide extremely accurate response, low noise, negligible distortion, and complete immunity to magnetic fields. All filters exhibit true constant
“Q” response with no broadening near the “flat” setting. High slew-rate circuitry throughout the signal path results in clean, quiet, transparent sound. The faders used
are a custom-manufactured metal-shaft type, with molded saddle knobs, for the ultimate in reliability and smooth “feel”. Ashly’s unique “T-Beam” front panel construction
eliminates interconnections between the faders and the filters, resulting in a very rugged and rigid front panel.
Input and output connections include locking XLR, 1/4” TRS and Euroblock. Ashly’s servo-balanced output circuitry maintains unity gain even if pins 2 or 3 are connected
directly to ground. The power supply is a universal switching power supply which operates from 100-240VAC, 50/60Hz with the power switch located on the rear panel.

BSS Omnidrive FDS-388 Loudspeaker Management System
The OMNIDRIVE Loudspeaker Management System represents a radical step forward in DSP processing
for loudspeaker management, incorporating BSS’s vast experience in crossover
design and combining two channels of 4-way crossover, parametric
equalisation, digital delay lines and limiters, and is designed for use in all areas
of sound control. A compact 2U chassis means reduced interconnections
cabling and rack weight, while increasing rack space availability. Major
facilities include password protection, automatic correction for HF response
with humidity and delays with temperature.
The user front-end is remarkably simple, combining a real-time graphical
display with an analogue-like output control section with led meters for full
indication of system performance. The screen shows crossover response, EQ
curves plus delay and limiter data in high-resolution graphics. System settings

HHB CDR-850 CD Real-Time Recorder
Combining exceptional sound quality, features and ease of use in a stylish, solidly engineered package, the HHB CDR850 has become the first choice in CD
recording with audio professionals the world over. Recording on both conventional write-once CD-R media and CD-RW rewritable discs, the CDR850 uses four
simple record modes and a logical, intuitive menu system to make CD recording as easy as cassette or DAT recording. With precision converters and
advanced circuit design ensuring excellent sound quality, the CDR850 is engineered without compromise for a lifetime of professional studio use.
A comprehensive array of input and output connectors is provided; both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA phono analog line inputs and outputs, optical and
coaxial SPDIF digital inputs and outputs and an AES/EBU digital input. The output level from the CDR850 is switchable from +4dBu to -8dBu via the front
panel menu, providing flexibility when connecting to other audio equipment, both professional and consumer. The digital output may also be switched off
from the menu.
The CDR850 has four recording modes available. Modes 1 and 2 are manual analog and digital, where the CDR850 behaves in a similar way to a conventional
cassette deck. Modes 3 and 4 are digital synchro modes, in which all CD, DAT, MD, DVD and DCC index points are automatically transferred to CD tracks
during recording. Audio may be recorded track by track, or an entire disc at once. The CDR850 can be set to automatically trigger a new track number when
the audio input reaches a certain level, or track starts can be entered manually by pressing the front panel button. Copying of index points is also
allowed when recording from sample CDs, where there may be a new index point every few seconds in each track. The auto finalize function enables a table
of contents (TOC) to be automatically written on the disc, making the recorded CD playable on any consumer CD player.
An on-board sample rate converter accepts incoming digital signals from 32-48kHz, making the CDR850 ideal for use when cloning from digital audio
workstations, 32kHz or 48kHz DATs and professional varispeed CD players. The sample rate converter may also be switched off to allow a 44.1kHz digital
input to be recorded unprocessed.
The flexible SCMS (Serial Copy Management System) employed by the CDR850 provides total control over copy protection status. As this is a professional
recorder, the copy protection status at the digital input is ignored, but can be set on the recorded disc. With copy protection enabled, the material on
your disc can’t be copied. The copy protection status can also be set to allow only one copy or multiple copies.
Many other features are also accessible through the CDR850’s front panel, including fade in / out, and an auto pause function, where the recorder can be
set to pause after playing a track. This feature will be indispensable to broadcasters, since it provides a way of ensuring perfect playback of the
required track. Tracks may also be accurately cued up for replay. Constant status feedback is provided at a glance by a large LED above the CD tray;
lighting green when in play, red when recording and orange when erasing rewritable media.
• Uses low-cost CD-R and rewritable CD-RW discs
• All functions easily accessible from the front panel
menu
• Four one-touch recording modes; 2 manual,
2 automatic
• Switchable sample rate converter accepts any
sampling frequency from 32kHz to 48kHz, including

Neumann KMS-105 Microphones
Designed with superlative vocal reproduction in mind, the KMS 105
brings Neumann quality to the demanding sound reinforcement environment.
With its super-cardioid polar pattern, low self noise and
colorless off-axis pickup, the KMS 105 complements in-ear monitor
systems. By employing a unique triple acoustic filter, The KMS 105
minimizes popping and wind noise, and with special mechanical and
electrical filters, handling noise is virtually eliminated. Because of the
superior resolution and linear high frequency response, it is very easy
for the artist using the KMS 105 to identify whether he or she is “on
mic”.
Acoustic features:
When compared to other handheld vocal microphones, the KMS
105 offers a superior resolution of the voice, with extended frequency
response and accurate transient detail. Sibilance problems common
to other handheld condenser mics are eliminated. No foam is used in
the basket, thus eliminating any “clouding” or “muffling” of the sound.
Also, by using a studio grade DC-polarized condenser capsule, all
the nuances of the voice come through with subtlety, power and
focus.
The K55 capsule was developed from the famous K50, found in the
KMS 150, KM 150 and KM 185 microphones. This new version
features a super-cardioid pattern, achieved by specially modifying
the response of the K50 pressure gradient transducer. The frequency
response characteristic is developed in the acoustic realm, allowing
for accurate representation of transient details found in music and
speech, and thus transmitting a very “open” and detailed capture of
the human voice. Due to the tight super-cardioid polar pattern and the distortion-free off axis response, a very high level of gain
before feedback is achieved. This polar pattern offers the highest degree of isolation while still allowing for a
generous “sweet spot” in front of the microphone.
Electrical features:
The dynamic range of the KMS 105 is 127 dB, allowing reproduction of the artist’s full expression, without
restraint. With a low self noise of 18 dB-A, a greater gain can be used without risk of adding noise to the mix.
This way, the artist is able to use the microphone at a greater distance therefore maintaining a wide range of
creative freedom during the performance.
Because of the superior resolution and linear high frequency response, it is very easy for the artist using in-ear
monitors to identify whether or not he or she is “on mic” with the KMS 105. And by employing a transformerless
output circuit, this microphone can incorporate long cable runs with no loss of signal quality or high-frequency
response.
Mechanical features:
Microphones designed for use on stage require a particularly
robust construction. The KMS 105
therefore has a thick-walled metal housing, which also provides
effective protection against handling noise.
The microphone headgrill is made of hardened steel. If
required, they can easily be unscrewed to permit cleaning
of the interior acoustic filters.
